Like many other single mothers, she has support, but the spotlight is often on her alone. She has raised two remarkable boys, constantly prioritizing their needs and dreams above her own.
Recently, she achieved a significant milestone: sending her eldest son off to college. This moment was not just about his impressive grades, but also about his dream to play Division 1 football. The hug they shared was filled with unspoken emotions. I couldn’t fully grasp what she said to him or her thoughts in that moment, but I felt overwhelming pride for her. I saw her tears of pride, but also the relief of knowing they made it through the hardships together. Being a single mom of Black sons in today’s world is no easy task, and she faced it head-on.
Watching her embrace her son, and witnessing her tears of relief as he stepped into adulthood successfully, was one of the most magical experiences of my life.
