Her brother, Leo Johnson, kept friends and family updated on Mia’s recovery through social media, noting on July 2 that she was participating in over three hours of physical therapy daily, although he wasn’t certain when she would be released. “But I’ll tell you what, she is strong, determined, and a bit stubborn, and she wants to get out of that hospital,” Leo posted on Facebook.
Finally, on Friday, Mia made her way out of the hospital. University Hospital celebrated her discharge on Twitter, posting a video of her presenting flowers to her nurses and caregivers as she left. “Today was a joyful day at University Hospital! Our final patient from the Uvalde shooting, 10-year-old Mia Johnson, has been discharged! …She is our hero, and we can’t wait to see all she will achieve in the future! #MiaStrong,” the post read.
