In preparing for my book tour, I became so preoccupied with ensuring my Spanx remained hidden during my appearances on various shows, including the Today Show, that I completely overlooked the importance of promoting my reading at Barnes & Noble scheduled for 7 PM.
We arrived at the venue at 6:45 PM, only to find the room entirely vacant. A quick glance out at 6:55 revealed a crowd of just two attendees—both elderly individuals who clearly had no clue who I was and were simply in search of a quiet spot to rest. Talk about a misstep!
Fortunately, a handful of other guests did arrive, sparing me from the embarrassment of only addressing grandparents unrelated to me. However, delivering my reading to a large room with a mere ten attendees was a humbling experience that I would prefer to avoid in the future. So, if I’m in your area, please come out to see me—I promise to promote it more effectively this time!

In summary, my book tour reminded me of the importance of promotion and audience engagement, as well as the necessity for thorough preparation.
