Marriage: A Journey of Blunders and Giggles
“To have and to hold, from this day forward, for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, until death do us part.”
Almost a decade ago, Jake and I exchanged those vows. Honestly, I can’t recall a single detail. We were totally clueless! I was 25, the last of my friends to tie the knot (except for my buddy who was in med school—she got hitched at 30). We stumbled through the ceremony and began our adventure together.
Fast forward ten years…
Husband: “Where did I put my white dress shirt and suit pants?”
Me: “Beats me.”
Silence.
Me: “When was the last time you saw them?”
Husband: “Last year.”
I couldn’t help but tease him like the loving wife I am. “I’m not your personal organizer! I’m just one person! How have you not worn your nice pants in 10 months? Oh my goodness, we really need to find a church to attend. The kids need to hear Bible stories—because I keep forgetting to teach them! I only remember the tales of Adam and Eve and the Christmas Story. Why are you laughing?!”
Jake is incredibly patient and listened to my entire rant before suggesting I check the dry cleaner to see if I’d accidentally left them there almost a year ago.
“Well, okay,” I replied. “But I usually keep track of that stuff.”
Karma has a funny way of biting back. After a three-day search for Jake’s suit pants and shirt, I decided to swing by our old dry cleaner—the one I avoid because it’s such a trek—on a whim.
As soon as I parked, the attendant burst into laughter. I felt my cheeks flush, and an overwhelming sense of embarrassment washed over me. “Hi, Mrs. McKenzie! I knew you’d come back! I told my boss not to give your things away!” He said that as I dug out all the outfits our entire family—yes, all five of us—wore for Christmas pictures nearly a year ago. Clearly, I hadn’t noticed my own wardrobe was missing either.
Ah, marriage!

In summary, marriage is a beautiful blend of laughter and missteps. It’s about navigating life together, even when things get a little chaotic. You might forget where your partner’s clothes are or misplace your sanity every now and then, but that’s all part of the fun, right?
