7 Things I Already Know About My Parenting Journey, Thanks for Your Input!

When it comes to parenting, unsolicited advice often feels as unwelcome as commenting on a woman’s pregnancy size. Believe it or not, most parents are acutely aware of their children’s behavior, and outside observations are usually not needed. After five busy years of parenting, here’s my personal list of seven things I’m already conscious of—no commentary required!

  1. My Baby Isn’t Wearing Socks: Yes, I know it’s chilly outside, and my little one is sockless. I’ve attempted to put them on three times, but each time, they’ve been met with determined little hands that yank them off. Duct tape might seem like a solution, but I’ve learned that attracts even stranger looks!
  2. I’m a Walking Mess: Every time I step outside, there’s a high likelihood that I have a sticker on my shoulder, Nutella smeared on my chin, a Cheerio stuck to my backside, and snot on various other areas. I’m aware of this—please keep your observations to yourself, unless you’re absolutely certain that Nutella is actually poop; I’d appreciate the heads-up on that!
  3. I Have More Than Two Kids: Yes indeed! I have three little ones, and yes, my hands are full. I’m fully aware of this fact, thank you very much.
  4. Time Flies: It’s true; the days are long, but the years are short. I often reflect on how quickly my little ones will grow up and eventually lead their own lives. However, when my two-year-old throws herself onto the pavement in a tantrum because I won’t let her crawl through a busy parking lot, it’s a bit hard to reflect on the fleeting nature of time.
  5. Snack Choices: I know graham crackers might not be the healthiest option for my baby, but between trying to juggle multiple tasks, I haven’t quite mastered how to breastfeed and jog simultaneously. If I don’t keep him busy, I might just lose my mind!
  6. Disagreements at the Playground: I can see that my child and yours are having a little squabble over the slide. I promise I’m not ignoring them; I just believe they can work it out on their own without our interference.
  7. Toddler Fashion Choices: Who appointed you the fashion police for toddlers? If my daughter wants to wear leopard-print pajamas to the library, I see no harm in that. Today’s battle was over her boots, and she’s wearing them!

In conclusion, unsolicited comments about parenting decisions are generally not helpful. If you’re inclined to share your thoughts, make sure they’re positive, like “You’re doing a fantastic job!”—then I’d love to hear from you.
