You might think you’re sharp, but there’s a 12-year-old out there who has left even the best of us in the dust.
Meet Emily Jenkins, a bright young girl from the UK who has scored an astounding 162 on her Mensa entrance exam. Mensa is an exclusive society for those with exceptionally high IQs, with members including some of the world’s most brilliant minds, like Stephen Hawking and Albert Einstein. By achieving this top score, Emily has surpassed both of these intellectual giants, placing her among the top one percent of the most intelligent individuals globally.
Not only did Emily ace the test, she described it as surprisingly easy. “At first, I was really anxious,” she shared with the local news, “but once I began, it turned out to be much simpler than I had anticipated, and I felt at ease.”
As an only child, Emily has demonstrated remarkable intellect from a young age. She spoke her first words at just six months and began playing the violin at age four. After a year of persistence, she finally convinced her parents to let her take the Mensa test. They found practice exams online, and once they saw her exceptional performance, they encouraged her to proceed. However, they were still astonished by her phenomenal achievement.
Interestingly, Emily isn’t alone in her brilliance this year. Two other young prodigies, Sarah Lee, aged 12, and Tom Harris, aged 10, also achieved perfect scores on their tests. The next challenge for these gifted children is the second part of the exam, which will lead to an official invitation to join Mensa if they rank within the top two percent. Currently, there are around 1,500 Mensa members under 18 years old, with the youngest member being just four years old. Four!
Feeling a bit less accomplished now? I know I am.
Many kids today may not even know what Mensa is, which is unfortunate because there are few better role models than someone like Emily Jenkins. While not every child can master musical instruments or surpass Einstein’s intellect, it’s essential for them to have heroes who inspire them to pursue excellence. We often see pop stars and athletes topping kids’ lists of role models, which is perfectly fine. But how amazing would it be if we celebrated young geniuses just as much? A 12-year-old girl who can outsmart some of the brightest minds in history is a remarkable figure. While she may not have the same star power as a celebrity, she certainly deserves a spot as your child’s new idol.
