When I greet a guest in my home, the first thing I ask is, “Can you smell my pets?” This question is a litmus test for distinguishing between acquaintances and close friends. I can’t help but feel self-conscious about the odor in my house. With two cats and a dog in our cozy space, it’s inevitable that there will be smells—like kitty litter, wet dog, cat vomit, and those infamous gas explosions from my dog when he chews on rawhide. Even lighting a match wouldn’t help.
Recently, I decided to take a break from suffocating the air with Febreze and explore scented candles specifically designed to eliminate pet odors. I want to emphasize the word neutralize—not just mask or cover up. I need those odors gone for good.
I chose these candles based on their rave reviews, and I must say, they exceeded my expectations. I’ve tried both the Piña Colada and Sunwashed Cotton fragrances, and they work wonders. I don’t even burn them close to the odor sources (thanks to my little ones), yet they still significantly reduce unpleasant smells.

I’ll likely continue asking friends if my house smells like pets, but now I hope to hear, “No! It smells wonderful in here! Did you hang your linens outside in the sunshine?”
