Chrissy Thompson is on a mission to foster open discussions among mothers regarding postpartum depression and anxiety. Known for her authenticity in sharing the ups and downs of motherhood, she has bravely addressed her own battles with infertility, post-baby intimacy, and, most notably, postpartum mental health challenges. Now, in partnership with the Allegheny Health Network (AHN) based in Pittsburgh, Thompson aims to reassure mothers that they are not alone in their struggles.
In an effort to raise awareness, Thompson is introducing the hashtag #MyWishForMoms to facilitate conversations about postpartum depression and anxiety. A press release from AHN reveals alarming statistics: over 500,000 new mothers, or one in seven, experience postpartum depression, yet only a mere 15 percent receive appropriate treatment, as reported by the American Psychological Association. In her Instagram announcement, Thompson stated, “It’s Maternal Mental Health Month, and I was honored to appear on the @MORNINGshow with @jennifermiller and @katieharris to launch this heartfelt initiative. Join me and @AHNtoday to support the moms facing postpartum depression or anxiety. Share a photo that reflects your experience with becoming a new mom and tell us what you wish you had known during that time. Use #MyWishForMoms. Just imagine if we could engage as many people in this conversation as the number of women who face it annually—over 500,000 of us!”
The hashtag has quickly gained traction, as numerous mothers are courageously sharing their experiences. This openness is precisely what Thompson hoped to inspire. “When I was approached to advocate for women dealing with postpartum depression and anxiety, I felt it was the perfect opportunity! I’m grateful to use my platform to help diminish the stigma surrounding these real and treatable conditions,” she expressed. “I wish I had understood that postpartum depression could affect anyone; I never thought it would happen to me. I had my beautiful daughter, Lily, and a supportive partner, yet I was genuinely struggling.”
As part of this initiative, Thompson spoke with mothers who have also faced postpartum mental health issues. She met with women who received treatment at the AHN Women’s Health Center for Perinatal Mental Health. Dr. Laura Mitchell, Medical Director of Women’s Behavioral Health at AHN, remarked, “We have developed a unique therapeutic environment that provides essential resources to women and their families, aimed at fostering healing and bonding. We are thrilled to collaborate with Chrissy and commend her for sharing her personal journey to assist other families.”
The AHN center offers a wide range of services for mothers experiencing pregnancy-related depression, anxiety, and bipolar disorder, making it one of the few in the U.S. to do so under one roof. Their approach emphasizes holistic care, including yoga, meditation, group therapy, and mother-child bonding activities to help navigate the challenges of new parenthood.
“My wish for moms is that they realize they are not alone and are supported by the countless women who share their experiences each year,” Thompson added. “Imagine if we could elevate the conversation on postpartum depression and anxiety to the level where everyone knows help is available.”

By encouraging open dialogue through the hashtag #MyWishForMoms, she hopes to raise awareness about these important mental health issues and remind mothers that they are not alone.
