Adrienne Foster, known for her role in the Cheetah Girls, and her husband, Israel Houghton, quietly welcomed their baby boy through a surrogate in August.

Foster has openly discussed her struggles with fertility, but when she learned in December that their surrogate was expecting, she chose to keep the news private for her mental well-being. “Honestly, everyone was shocked,” she shared with PEOPLE, noting that she only confided in a small circle of six people. Her sister even remarked on her impressive secrecy, saying, “I am so proud of you. You are really holding this.” For Foster, this experience felt sacred and personal.

The couple announced the arrival of their son, Ever James, on Instagram on August 16. “Our baby boy is here & we are so in love! If you have followed our love story, you know our journey to baby has been very challenging – But God is true to His word and His promises,” she wrote alongside a heartwarming photo of their new family. “He is worth every tear, every disappointment, every delayed prayer, every IVF cycle, every miscarriage. Everything. All we feel is joy and overwhelming love & gratitude.”

Having navigated five years of emotional ups and downs related to fertility, Foster felt that keeping the pregnancy a secret was vital for her mental health and her family. “I was just like, ‘I’m just not going to say anything.’ It was actually very peaceful that way. You didn’t have other people’s opinions,” she explained.

The former host of a popular daytime talk show had previously undergone eight unsuccessful in-vitro fertilization cycles and a miscarriage before turning to surrogacy, which she described as “quite nerve-wracking.” “Somebody else has your child with them. We call it extreme babysitting for nine months. It can cause you to be really anxious,” she admitted. To mitigate this anxiety, she chose to keep the experience private, focusing on the joy of the journey.

Congratulations to the new family of three!
