15 Thoughts Toddlers Have Before Sleep
As a devoted parent, I often find myself monitoring my little ones through a video baby monitor. This is perhaps a bit obsessive, but knowing what my children are up to provides me with some peace of mind. After I tuck them in, I frequently check the monitor every few minutes to observe their activities.
While they can often be heard laughing, playing, or even crying, it’s the moments of silence that truly intrigue me. What could possibly be going through their minds as they lie there wide awake? Here are some possibilities:
- Why does my favorite character wear pajamas at night but not during the day? My kids are keen observers of their surroundings.
- How can I get some candy? Honestly, I find myself pondering this at 2 AM too when I dream of sneaking off for a treat.
- What does Mom do while I sleep? Well, it’s likely she’s indulging in some candy.
- How long do I need to behave to earn some candy? Spoiler alert: Candy is generally off-limits for kids.
- Why does Mom shut the door when she uses the bathroom, but I just go wherever? You’re still learning the ropes of potty training. At least you get to watch TV while doing it!
- This diaper is constricting. Maybe I’ll just take it off and toss it into my sibling’s crib.
- What’s the big deal with wearing clothes? I can’t promise I have a good answer for this one.
- Is tomorrow bath night? It only is if we have spaghetti for dinner—a predictable routine.
- Candy, candy, candy! Enough said.
- I don’t know what “coffee” is, but it seems important to Mom. Yes, it certainly is. Please stop spilling it!
- When can I have cheesecake for breakfast like Mom did? Perhaps when you’re all grown up and on your own.
- I should remind Mom that grapes aren’t candy. You’re quite insightful; now, enjoy your healthy snack!
- Why does my sibling have an extra finger down there? We’ll explain that to you when you’re much older. I could use another coffee right now.
- Why does the spider keep crawling up the spout? It’s a lesson in not eating your vegetables!
- I think Mom is amazing. I want to grow up just like her so I can buy all the candy without restrictions.
